Clasificación Internacional del Funcionamiento de la Discapacidad y de la Salud (CIF): Revisión de sus aplicaciones en la Rehabilitación

2008
The complexity in the conception of disability has originated conceptual errors to population and professional level in general. We have been tempted by the traditional conceptions that do not have a serious and formal foundation, even the political speeches have used erroneous terms and constantly, when they are used, cause confusions in the conception of disability. The theoretical review to analyze the different positions around the conception of disability, and also has given us the initiative to dedicate publications contributing in the diffusion of the ICF. In 1980 the World Health Organization (WHO) proposed the International Classification of Impairments, Disability and Handicaps (ICIDH), to attend this conceptualization through the sequence of the concepts: deficiencies, disabilities and handicaps; nevertheless, in 2001, based on the representation of the interactions between the dimensions of functionality and disability proposed the Classification of Functionality, Disability and Health (ICF). The diffusion through of ICF between the formal and scientific communication of it is necessary in the professional community and of great cultural significance.
