Optical effect of Fe doped wurtzite ZnS nanoparticles

2010
Iron (Fe2+) doped wurtzite zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanoparticles were prepared by the co-precipitation method at room temperature. The optical and structural properties of Zn (1-x)FexS (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.2) have been characterized. Room temperature (PL) measurement showed two intensity peaks, the first is due to the band to band transition. The second PL peak is quenched with increasing Fe concentration, and the maxima shifted to higher wavelengths with further increasing the Fe dope. From the absorbance measurement, the direct optical bandgap values have been calculated and they lie in the range of Eg = 3.8 eV to 3.1 eV. The bandgap decreases with the increase of Fe concentration in the film. X-ray diffraction patterns revealed pure hexagonal ZnS phase with size lie in the range D = 10.2 nm to 7.42 nm for Zn (1-x)FexS (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.2).
