Time Series Analysis

1973
I regret being unable to attend the symposium and I look forward to the publication of the major contributions. In the field of Engineering Hydrology, many branches of statistics are being used successfully and Time Series Analysis is one that is receiving a great deal of attention. Thus, Dr. Kendall's exposition of Spectral Analysis is most welcome. The hydrologists using this technique with river discharge records are well aware of the pitfalls to be encountered but even when the known countermeasures are taken, the interpretation of spectra often needs the experienced help of the statistician. Nevertheless, spectral analysis in conjunction with the correlogram is an extremely useful tool in helping to understand the structure of river flow records.
