Electromagnetic—rotordynamic integrated vibration analysis for electrical machines

2009
AbstractA systematic approach for analysing vibration-related problems of electrical machines, integrating both complex electromagnetic and rotordynamic analyses, is completely presented with an in-house finite-element solution module, formulated from related theories in rotor-dynamics. The electromagnetic analysis processes with the MagNet software are described herein to obtain the performance curves of electrical machines. They are integrated into the equation of motion to investigate the corresponding vibration characteristics. Based on the previously published work, the squirrel-cage-type induction motor is employed as an extended case study to demonstrate the integrated procedure. Three types of silicon steel core materials are considered in order to explore their effects in the dynamic properties of the system. Also, what happens on the vibration amplitude of rotor critical positions at the instant right before and after passing the critical speed are investigated thoroughly. The corresponding resu...
