MONOCARBOXYLIC acid derivatives of vitamin B12 obtained by mild acid hydrolysis are competitive B12 antagonists in Escherichia coli. The three isomeric monocarboxylic acids so obtained differ from one another in both their microbiological and haematological activities1–3.
