Loop detectors in active level crossing applications

2011
Inductive Detection Loops are commonly used in various applications for detecting motor vehicles at road traffic lights. They are usually placed in the roadbed (roadway pavement) to detect vehicles as they pass through the looprs magnetic field. When the metallic body of a vehicle or another metallic object moves into the magnetic field the inductive characteristics of the loop are varied which is detected and processed by loop detector/loop analyser. As all railroad vehicles (locomotives, cars, trams) are metallic objects their presence on the track can be detected using inductive loop(s).
