Analysis of the Prevalence of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and its Risk Factors in a General Adult Males of Fangchenggang City

2011
Objective To investigate the prevalence rate of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)and its risk factors among adult males in a general population. Methods The large-scale physical examination were conducted for statistical analysis in Fangchenggang First People's Hospital.A standard interview, anthropometrics, iochemical studies, and abdominal ultrasonography were required for each participant. Results A total of 3 238 cases of adult men enrolled in the survey,of 832 individuals was diagnosed as NAFLD(25.69%),while 2 406 healthy subjects were designated as the control group.Among adult males younger than 50 years, the prevalence of NAFLD increased with age,but in participants older than 50 years the case was just the opposite. The mean age, waist circumference, body mass index(BMI),waist-to-hipratio,contractive pressure, diastolic pressure, fasting plasma glucose(FPG),total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),ALT,uric acid(UA),and the presence of overweigh, obesity, hypercholesteremia, hypertriglyceridemia, impairedfasting glucose, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperuricemia, liver dysfunction in NAFLD group was significantly higher than those in control group, but the high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)level in NAFLD group was lower than that of control group.Logistic regression showed that TG,BMI,waist circumference,FPG,HDL-C,ALT and UA were highly correlated to NALFD.Conclusion There is a high prevalence of NAFLD among adult males in Fangchenggang. The risk factors for NAFLD are TG,BMI,waist circumference and FPG.HDL-C is the protective factor for NALFD.
