Segurança do uso de contraceptivos orais combinados em pacientes com enxaqueca: revisão narrativa

2020
Objective: Evaluate through a narrative review the safety of using available COCs, in order to verify which formulations and doses are safer for women with migraine. In addition to checking whether there is a greater risk of cardiovascular events related to the use of COC in these patients, comparing the occurrence of stroke. Bibliography review: The safety of using COC in women with migraine has been studied for years. Based on the studies, it is well established that the use of high-dose COC in women with migraine, especially with aura, can increase the risk of cardiovascular accidents, with the occurrence of stroke being more common. In addition, this risk is even higher when these women are exposed to other risk factors. Regarding low-dose COCs, studies have not yet established a standard. Final considerations: It is concluded that there is a correlation between the use of COC and migraine for the occurrence of cardiovascular phenomena, especially when we consider migraine with aura. In addition, the risk of stroke varies according to the dose of estrogen used, whereas in low doses there is no significant risk for the occurrence of stroke, but the lack of data is still notorious.
