Atitudes em relação ao adoecimento psíquico: um estudo com professores do curso de medicina.

2020
Introduction: The stigma about psychic illness has more serious consequences than those caused by mental illness itself. In addition, the training of health professionals is widely influenced by the faculty, so that the presence of negative stereotypes of teachers about psychological illness can cause harmful consequences in the training of these professionals and in the health care of students. Therefore, the goal of the study was to evaluate the attitudes towards the mental disorder of medical school teachers. Methods: Cross-sectional observational study with medical school professors from the University of the South of Santa Catarina (UNISUL), Tubarao campus, from august to november 2019. Results: Most of the professors of the medical course, showed positive attitudes towards mental illness. Teachers demonstrated to have contact with the mental disorder of the students, however they did not feel informed to deal with these situations. In addition, teachers who felt informed had less restrictive attitudes towards psychic illness (p = 0.015). Conclusions: Teachers contact with the students' mental illness, however, despite the teachers' positive attitudes about psychic illness, the misinformation can be a barrier to listening, much demanded of teachers.
