Clinical experiences with a new orally administered mercurial diuretic.

1953
A REVIEW of the literature reveals that the use of orally administered diuretic drugs in the therapy of congestive heart failure is gaining wide acceptance.1 2 3 4 5 The ease of administration by the oral route, obviating visits to an outpatient department and thus lessening the burden on the patient, makes it a desirable method of treatment. For the past few years, several such drugs have been given to ambulatory patients in the outpatient clinic at the Boston City Hospital. This article presents the results obtained with an oral diuretic preparation now known as Neohydrin (3-chloromercuri-2-methoxy-propylurea).§ Fifteen patients with severe congestive heart failure . . .
