Clotting factors and oestrogen replacement therapy

The workshop-session on clotting factors attempted three tasks: (a) an epidemiological assessment of the relationship between oestrogen replacement therapy in peri- and post-menopausal women and the development of certain thrombotic related vascular diseases, namely venous thrombosis, stroke and myocardial infarction, (b) a survey of current concepts of the mechanism of thrombosis and fibrinolysis as it relates to hormone replacement and finally, (c) the presentation of the most recent data on oestrogen replacement therapy and coagulation.
