This report examines needs for notetaking services by deaf or hard of hearing students at the postsecondary level and ways of providing these services. It discusses training, supervision, the responsibilities of those involved in provision of notetaking services, and policies and procedures for providing useful and efficient notetaking services. Individual sections address the following topics: (1) listening and the process of good notetaking; (2) general suggestions for individuals taking notes for deaf and hard of hearing students; (3) what to look for in a good notetaker; (4) the notetaker code of ethics; (5) policies regarding the notetaking process; (6) training notetakers; (7) role of the notetaker coordinator; (7) planning for notetaking; (8) paid versus volunteer notetaking; (9) responsibilities of students who use notetaking services; (10) faculty responsibilities; (11) applications of technology in notetaking; (12) other technologies; and (13) laws and regulations. Appendices include a sample notetaker code of ethics, a notetaking application rating form, and a form for evaluating notes. (Contains 13 references.)
