Photoacoustic Dose Monitoring in Radiosurgery

In vivo range verification in patients is determined to be crucial to utilize the full potential of proton radiotherapy Parodi et al, (Mod Phys Lett A, 30, 1540025, 2015, [1]). In this work we study the detection of acoustic waves generated by a clinical photon beam. Since the dose-acoustic effect is similar in photons and protons, the results of this work can be further extrapolated to proton beams Jones et al, (Phys Med Biol, 59, (21), 6549, 2014, [2]).
