Synthesis of a Conducting Polymer - Polyaniline - based Layers Suitable for the Application in Electrochromic Sensors

2018
Electrochemically deposited conducting polymer polyaniline (PANI) electrochromic films were deposited onto the indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass electrodes and their electrochromic performances were investigated by using spectrophotometric and electrochemical methods. Optical performance of PANI film was evaluated by measuring spectroscopic signals before and after the incubation of PANI film coated electrode in ammonia and some metal ion containing solutions. The most significant alteration of electrochromic effect was observed after an incubation of PANI/ITO-modified electrode in Cu(II) ion containing solution. The conditions at which the PANI films exhibit the highest optical contrast have been determined. Applicability of PANI/ITO-electrodes for electrochromic effect-based determination of Cu(II) ions has also been discussed.
