Current pesticide usage of rice farmers in the Philippines

The Philippine Rice Information System (PRISM) aims to develop a monitoring and information system for rice production in the country. The project aims to provide accurate, timely and reliable information on rice to end users. It has two components: rice mapping and crop health monitoring. The crop health component collected information through surveys at farmer's fields, characterizing the production situations in the area and to assess the injuries caused by diseases, animal pests and weeds. Pesticides and fertilizers information are collected throughout the whole country across 16 regions for every cropping seasons. Based on 2016 2nd semester data (July to December) the commonly used pesticides was insecticide (44%), herbicide (28%), molluscide (18%), fungicide (9%) and rodenticide. The top five mostly used pesticide active ingredients was cypermethrin, niclosamide, niclosamide ethanolamine salt, 2, 4-D, chlorpyrifos + BPMC.
