Craniopharyngeal Canal and Pharyngeal Hypophysis in the Siamang Gibbon (Symphalangus syndactylus)
1971
Investigation on the nasopharynx of a variety of primates revealed the presence of a craniopharyngeal canal associated with a vestigeal pharyngeal hypophysis in the siamang gibbon. Such a co-existence suggests that at least in this animal, the canal is an unclosed pathway originally utilized by the Rathke’s pouch.
