Restructuring education, training and human-resource development in the Nigerian construction industry

2010
Investments in manpower development in the construction industry of most developing nations have been the failure of numerous National plans and development strategies adopted by countries and international lending institutions. As a consequence most of these nations are experiencing serious human resources constraints in their construction industry. Clearly the perception and position of government on education has a very long term effect on training of manpower for the industry. The paper looks at knowledge acquisition, the constraints and the possibilities of creating new humanresource capacity for the industry. By stabilizing the construction environment and re-orienting existing training and training institution in terms of government skills-development strategy, these proposals will help create new careers for those working in the industry.
