Associação entre relação dentária sagital e alterações na coluna vertebral em adolescentes Association between dental sagittal relationship and changes in the spine of adolescents

2011
The present study aims to analyze the association between dental sagittal relationship and changes in the spine of adolescents. Samples of 100 patients of both genders aged 12-14 years old with complete permanent dentition and never treated orthodontically were used. Each patient was classified according to the type of malocclusion, according to Angle classification, and was also classified according to the type of change in the spine that presented, as kyphosis, lordosis or scoliosis. The results showed that the total of 54 patients did not show any change in the sagittal dental arch, 37 presented class II and 9 presented Angle class III. On changes in the spine, 20 adolescents showed no change and 80 showed one or more changes. It can be concluded that this population has a high prevalence of postural changes, and no significant relationship (X 2 test, p ˃ 0,05) was found between dental sagittal relationship and changes in the spine.
