In 2001, Team UAH built a boat called Survivor. They strategically tuned their hull by lowering its natural frequency to a few Hertz so that the forcing function created by the paddlers, at slightly greater than one Hertz, drove the boat toward resonance. When the flexible hull deformed in response to the applied torsional and bending moments, very large stresses and strains developed.
