Reaction of CO with K[Ru(EDTAH)H2O]: Formation of stable ruthenium(III) carbonyl complexes

Abstract Interaction of K[Ru(EDTAH)Cl] ( 1 ) with CO at very low pH (1.0) produces the protonated species [Ru(EDTAH)(CO)(H 2 O)] ( 2 ). Interaction of 1 with CO results in the formation of K[Ru(EDTA)(CO)H 2 O] ( 3 ) and K 3 [(Ru(EDTA)) 2 -μ-CO-μ-OH] ( 4 ). Complexes 2 and 3 have a μ eff of 1.90 and 1.87 B.M., respectively, while complex 4 exhibits a μ eff of 3.97 B.M. The EPR of complex 4 shows a resonance at half field position at 4.60 as a result of Ru III -Ru III coupling.
