An electro-hydrostatic aircraft actuator using a matrix converter permanent magnet motor drive

In this paper the design, construction and testing of a Matrix Converter Permanent Magnet Motor Drive for an ElectroHydrostatic Aircraft Actuator (EHA) is described. The converter has been built using a 35Amp Matrix Converter module with closed loop vector control of the permanent magnet machine. The permanent magnet machine then drives a pump, which in turn moves the actuator. Practical results from the testing of this converter are presented.
