Surgical Treatment of the Lateral Ligaments of the Ankle

We reviewed 31 patients who had received surgical treatment of the lateral ligaments of the ankle between 1981 and 1992. The mean follo-period was 4 years-2 months (range, 1 year to 10 years 5 months) Ligamentous lesions were diagnosed by clinical examination and stress radiographs. 78.2% of the subjects reviewed achieved a good result, and were alde to resume sporting activities. We are convinced that surgery offers young athletes a better chance of regaining joint stability.
