Synthesis of a Novel Diterpenoid Rearrangement Product

The two intermediates postulated in the rearrangement of the labdane diterpenoid octahy-dronaphthopyranone (2) into the octahydronaphthofuranone (4) have been synthesized and coupled, thereby providing support for a previously proposed rearrangement mechanism.
