A discrimination method for the presence of a vehicle (2) on a block (6C) of a track (4), comprising the steps of: - transmitting, from a computer (14) onboard the vehicle (2) to a computer on the ground (12), information relating to the number of vehicle axles (2); - transmission, over time, by sensors in the track (8) associated with said township (6C) and the adjacent blocks (6B, 6D) said township (6C), to a computer on the ground (12), of information relating to the number of axles present in canton (6B, 6C, 6D) corresponding; - discrimination by the computer to the ground (12) of the presence of said vehicle (2) on said township (6C) if the number of axles present on said township (6C) is equal to the number of axles of said vehicle (2) and if the number of axles present on each of the districts (6B, 6D) adjacent is zero.
