Thermometry Between 0.5 and 30 K

The advent of the Collins helium liquefier in the 1950s gave a tremendous spur to low temperature research and technology. No longer was it necessary to liquefy the precious litre or two of helium in situ and hurriedly conduct an experiment before it was exhausted.
