What Can We Learn From Organizational Communication

Although the importance of organizational communication in impression and legitimacy management has long been highlighted, little is known about how firm communication influence other critical aspects of management, such as CEO succession, competitive interactions, post-acquisition integration, and crisis management. In this symposium, we include five papers that that explore [1] how the framing of CEO succession announcement influence the favorability of market reactions, [2] the impact of firm competitive action framing on rivals’ behavior, [3] how the level of similarity in communication between two firms of M&A influence the outcomes of M&A, and finally [3] the role of language, attribution, and sensemaking in crisis management.
