Construction of cancer-on-a-chip for drug screening

2021
Cancer-on-a-chip has recently emerged and attracted wide attention in the field of anticancer drug screening. Compared with traditional cancer models, it enables the faithful recapitulation of the native cancer microenvironment in a high-throughput and cost-effective manner. Moreover, the application of cancer-on-a-chip usually simplifies the process of drug loading and cellular characterization. Therefore, it is considered a promising tool for drug screening in both drug development and personal drug administration. Here, we review recent advances in cancer-on-a-chip assisted drug screening, with a special focus on the concrete process of constructing the microfluidic chip. It is thought that cancer-on-a-chip will strongly promote the development of drug screening by serving as a reliable and convenient cancer model.
