Analysis of the relationship between somatotype and hypertension

2010
Objective To analyze the relationship between somatotype and hypertension. Methods One hundred and forty hypertension patients(hypertension group) and l40 healthy physical examinees(control group) were selected. The values of endomorphy, mesomorphy and ectomorphy were calcu1ated with the Heath-Carter anthropometric somatotyping method, and somatypes were divided into endomorphic(adiposity),mesomorphic(muscularity) and ectomorphic(linearity) ones. The somatotype constituent ratio of the two groups was observed. Results The values of endomorphy and mesomorphy were both higher in male and female patients of hypertension group than those in healthy groups(all P0.05);The values of mesomorphy was higher in male than that in female, and endomorphy of the female was higher than that of the male in two groups(both P0.01).Significantly more endomorphic ones were found in hypertension group than that in control group(P0.05).Conclusion The main somatotype of hypertension patients is endomorphic,Obesity is risk factor of hypertension.
