The Informal Educator of Color: Reflections on Lessons Learned

2007
AbstractEthnically-specific museums provide meaningful opportunities for museum professionals and others to explore what it means to be a member of a particular racial, ethnic, or cultural group. This paper presents three lessons the author has learned during her career as an educator of color in ethnically-specific museums. These lessons about access, assumptions, and accountability offer some ways the museum community can think about approaching under-standing learning and related epistemological development in relation to issues of race, ethnicity and culture.
