Considering socio-cultural characteristics in Korea, mother’s role has been extremely important as not only main rearers but also supporters for adolescent children. The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning units and essential structure of middle-aged women’s experiences as mothers for rearing adolescent children. The Giorgi’s method was employed among various phenomenological methods for this analysis. In this study a total of six mothers were chosen as interviewee, residing in B city and G provinces. Interviews were carried out for the phenomenological study, and the Giorgi’s method was used for this analysis. Data from interviewes were analyzed to derive 385 units of meanings, which were grouped by 16 components of elements. Based on our analyses, the structure of rearing experiences was composed of four steps, namely, ‘ordinary’, ‘conflict’, ‘overcome’, and ‘leap’. In particular, the core theme of the experiences for rearing adolescent children was intercommunication. It was found that the positive progress in the relationship between mothers and children was achived through mothers’self-training by having an empty mind for the intercommunications. This study suggests new directions to the advanced education of mothers for rearing adolescent children, indicating that additional education components such as, characteristics of psychological development steps and transition processs of life-style of middle-aged women, should be included in the education.
