In Reply: Gas Leak Syndrome

The warning about the "gas leak syndrome" is surely timely. The summertime is the season for checking the patency of flues and making certain that nesting birds have not obstructed chimney tops. Indeed, in some areas, bird and squirrel proof screens on chimneys are a necessity. My own experience with each of two families is rather like that described by Moore and Finstone recently ("The Case of the Disappearing Headache," New Eng. J. Med., 278:1216, 1968), with recurrent symptoms which were worse at home and better away from home.
