Comparative Study of the Voltage Drops Estimation on Electrical Distribution grid: Case study of the Togolese Company of Electricity and Energy grid

2019
This paper has evaluated a comparative study of the voltage drops on electrical distribution grid by a simulation platform. The computation of the voltage drop computation was done by the use of two methods. Firstly, with the help of a simplified power line model a theoretical calculation has been performed. The considered distribution networks, which can be splitted broadly into two the high and low tension: the high-tension has two classes A and B (High Tension class A denoted as HTA); and low voltage (LV), which has also two classes A and B. The second method has consisted in modelling the HTA distribution’s power grid in Matrix Laboratory (MatLab) software using the Power System Analysis Toolbox (PSAT) as a simulation platform. Both methods were compared against the data of the voltage drops that were obtained from the electricity utility. The results have shown that the implemented PSAT’s model has given a reliable and fast consistent computation as compared to the conventional classical calculation method. The proposed designed model in the PSAT’s application could be useful in the decisions such as the voltage drop correction, maintenance, planning, and for the reliability of the HTA power grid.
