Recent developments in polymeric nanocomposites (PNCs)

2003
In this feature article, we review the past and recent developments in polymer nanocomposites (PNCs). The importance of the area is discussed in relation to future prospects and applications. Different types of compositesand recent techniques developed by many active groups are addressed. A few interesting examples of fabrication of polymer-clay/silicate composites are discussed. Different techniques used for the characterization of PNCs are mentioned. The nanocomposites of carbon nanotubes or metal oxides are also discussed due to their importance in electrical and electronic applications. Possible end applications of PNCs and the future tasks to be undertaken at the center of excellence in polymer science (CEPS) in developing PNCs are presented in this article.
