Estimation of rubber and resin content in Guayule from a diverse breeding population in Mexico

1991
Abstract Thirty-eight accessions and two control varieties of guayule were evaluated under rain-fed conditions. The analysis of variance showed significant differences for percentage rubber. The differences between percentage resin, plant height, and top spread were not significant. The rubber content varied from 1.7% to 5.9%. Accessions 205, 240, and 301 produced a higher percentage of rubber than the check varieties (G11604 and N573). Significant and positive correlations were found between percentage rubber and percentage resin; plant height and top spread; and top spread and yield of dry flowers. The collections made from Ayala and Parras of Coahuila Province provided outstanding genotypes.
