Transcutaneous oxygen and carbon dioxide measurements are successfully applied in non-invasive monitoring of newborn children. Recent reports on its applicability in adults are quite encouraging, not only as a continuous monitoring of arterial blood gas analysis in patients with stable circulation, but also for patients in shock [1–11].
