The research aims to identify studies in the literature on the nursing care of patients with hypertension. For the development of this work it was carried out a bibliographic study whose type was of integrative review of the literature. For the selection of studies, we surveyed data on Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and (LILACS). This study analyzed 20 scientific articles in the period 2004-2013, in August and September 2013. It was used as descriptors; hypertension, nursing, assistance. Through the results, which were evidenced by the literature, after the content analysis, it was possible to identify two themes: Nursing care related to health promotion and adherence to drug treatment for hypertension. We conclude that nursing care is essential for patients with hypertension, for it follows new trends of assistance by promoting individual or group educational activities that guarantees knowledge of the condition and quality of life.
