Incidence of Colorectal Cancer in Some Areas of Roi Et (อุบัติการของโรคมะเร็งลำใส้ใหญ่และทวารหนัก ในพื้นที่จังหวัดร้อยเอ็ด)

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers. In 2009, Thailand National CancerInstitute reported that CRC was the third most common cancer both in men following liver b second,colonoscopy as back up services; and the last was pathologic study as gold standard. Descriptivestatistics were employed as number, percentage, and 95% confidence interval (CI).Ten thousand and eighty one subjects were enrolled. Eight hundred twenty nine had positiveFOBT (8.2%, 95%CI 7.7, 8.8). After medical status evaluated, 522 had received colonoscopy (62.9%,95%CI 59.6, 66.3). Biopsies were performed among 166 (31.8%, 95%CI 27.8, 35.9). Pathologicstudy revealed 12 with carcinomatous lesions (0.00012.%, 95% CI 0.00006, 0.0002).The incidence of CRC in Roi Et Province was 11.5 per 100,000 population which was higherthan the National data - 7.6 in men and 8.8 in women. Systematic measures should be establishedand promoted for the prevention and control of CRC.Key words: colorectal cancer, fecal occult blood test - FOBT, screening
