Effects of Surface Modification of Rubber Particles on Pavement Concrete Performance

2010
In this article, the effects of surface modification of rubber particles on slump, strength, fatigue property and shrinkage for 28d have been investigated. The results show that the interface finishing agent can improve the fluidity of rubberized concrete as well as the weak layer between cement matrix and rubber particles, and enhance the strength. The strength doesn't decrease significantly when the mixing amount of rubber particles after surface treatment is below 15%. Comparing to common concrete, the shrinkage value of rubberized concrete decreases obviously, and the shrinkage of rubberized concrete after surface treatment decreases by 25.4%, while rubberized concrete without surface treatment is by 33.3% at the mixing amount of 15%. The results of fatigue test indicate that its fatigue resistance is much higher than common concrete, and rubber particles can improve brittleness of concrete. In addition, its failure mode is that the concrete has broken but without presenting dispersed state, which is completely different from common concrete.
