Soroprevalência De Babes/A Bovis (Babés, 1888) Na Mesorregião Do Médio Paraíba Do Estado Do Rio De Janeiro

Seroprevalence of Babesia bovis (Babes, 1883) in "Medio Paraiba" mesoregion ofRio de Janeiro State, Brazil. Rev. Vniv. Rural, Ser. Cienc. Vida, 22 (Supl. 1):01-08, 2000. - The indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was utilized in the seroprevalence study. Antibodies against Babesia bovis were analysed in sera samp les from 223 bovines of eig ht municipalities in the "Medio Paraiba" mesoregion , Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. The serology showed that 203 (91.03%) were positive, of which were: 27.80% with a titre of 1:500, 26.00% of 1 : 1000, 18.38% of 1:2000,8.52% of 1:4000,6.28% of 1:8000, 1.35% of 1:16000, 1.35 of 1)2000, 1 .35 of 1:64000 a nd 8.97% were negative. The prevalence analysis according to the sex showed that 89.07 % of females (n=l83) a nd 100% of males (n=40), were positive. According to the breed, 100% of beef cattle (n=38) and 89.19% of dairy cattle (n=185), were positive. Regarding the age groups, 100% of 1 to 3 years-old animal (n=53), 90.14% of3 to 6 years-old (n=71) and 86.87% of>6 years-old (n=99), were positive. There were no significant differences between sexes and breeding types (P>0.05). There were significa nt differen ces between age groups (P<0.0093) and between the prevalence in the municipalities (P<0.0001). The infection by B. bovis in this a reais high and heterogeneou s a lthou gh , the seropreva lence showed that the mesoregion is enzootically stable.
