Affected employers would be well advised to familiarize themselves with the requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), which protects the reemployment rights and benefits of members of the uniformed services. This article explains those requirements, points out gaps in the law, and warns that where the law is unclear, employers ought to err on the side of the veteran.
