A STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PLANNED TEACHING PROGRAMME ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING MANAGEMENT OF SELECTED OBSTETRIC EMERGENCIES AMONG B.SC NURSING 4th YEAR STUDENTS AT COLLEGE OF NURSING,ADESH UNIVERSITY, BATHINDA.

Background: Obstetric emergencies are the leading causes of maternal mortality worldwide and particularly in developing countries where literacy, poverty, lack of antenatal care, poor transport facilities and inadequate equipment/staffing combine to magnify the problem. Objectives: The objectives of study was to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding management of selected obstetric emergencies among B.Sc. (N) 4th year students at college of Nursing, Adesh University, Bathinda. Material and methods: Quantitative research approach and pre- experimental research design was used for the study. Convenience sampling technique was used to select 50 B.Sc. (N) 4th year students. Structured Knowledge questionnaire was used to collect the relevant data. The questionnaire was formulated after discussions with the experts in the related field and on the basis of review of literature. Results: The study findings show the frequency distribution of knowledge and practice score of sample during pre-test 1(2%) of the samples had good knowledge,12(24%) of the samples had average knowledge and 37(74%) were having below average knowledge. The frequency distribution of knowledge score of sample during post- test 38(76%) of the samples had good knowledge and only 12(24%) of samples had average knowledge and 0(0%) were having below average knowledge. The mean knowledge of pre-test is 33.70 and SD is 3.196. The mean knowledge and practice for post- test is 22.08 and SD is 2.732. The mean difference between pre- test and post- test is 11.980. The paired T value is 19.209 and P value is p<0.001 and this showed that Structured teaching programme was effective. Conclusion: There is an improvement in the Knowledge score among student nurses after Structured teaching programme .
