This paper try to infer the original version of Water Margin by comparing the relevant paragraphs in Water Margin and The Golden Lotus. The authors star their discussion from two paragraphs related to the events of He Jiu's necropsy, and the old lady Wang's scheme of adultery. They believe that the Rongyutang version (or its earlier version) has changed some contents in the original version of Water Margin, so the Rongyutang version is not original. The Water Margin adopted in The Golden Lotus was another version of simple combination. The version based by the publisher was not complete, so some current circulating later versions had been used as supplement
