Loss Components in Electric Drive of Cold Pilger Mill. Control Law Optimization

The improvement of energy efficiency of cold pilger mill's electric drive is shown in the paper. The research was made by means of a mathematical model approach. The dependence of the RMS armature current of the main electric drive motor on the cutoff frequency of the speed loop is constructed for a cold pilger mill. The possibility of saving energy by weakening the motor field before the working stroke is considered. An optimal control signal to weaken the motor field is considered from the point of view of energy saving. As a result of the problem's solution, conditions are revealed ensuring the losses reduction in the electric drive of the cold pilger mill. The considered measures, aimed at increasing the energy efficiency of electric drives of this group of machines, allow reducing the power consumption for the rolling cycle.
