Production of magnetic recording medium and magnetic recording medium

1992
PURPOSE: To smooth the contact with a head and to enhance durability by forming a lubricative layer on a magnetic recording layer with superfine particles of three-dimensional carbon molecules or a mixture of the carbon molecules with a lubricant. CONSTITUTION: A magnetic disk is composed of a substrate 10, an underlayer 11 formed on the substrate 10, a magnetic recording layer 12 stuck on the underlayer 11 and a lubricative layer 13 covering the magnetic recording layer 12. The lubricative layer 13 is formed with only three-dimensional carbon molecules, or a mixture of the carbon molecules with a lubricant or a layer of the carbon molecules and a lubricant applied to the surface of the layer. The particle diameter of the three-dimensional carbon molecules and/or that of the mixture are regulated to 0.1-3.0μm. The three-dimensional carbon molecules are preferably soccer ball-shaped three-dimensional hollow molecules C60 or rugby ball-shaped three-dimensional hollow molecules C70. Lubricity is enhanced and the entire magnetic recording layer is surely maintained. COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
