Rol de la pobreza y la diversidad de las poblaciones en el conflicto ambiental en las provincias de Sucumbios y Orellana

2014
The success of plans and strategies for conservation is found in the support and involvement of the population, which is reached by the understanding of their social realities. Based on this idea, this investigation analyses the role of poverty and migration in a population’s propensity to conflict with a company in en Dayuma (Orellana) and Cuyabeno (Sucumbios) in Ecuador. Environmental conflict rises when there is a clash between the interests in the management of scarce resources. There are different factors that accelerate the environmental conflict escalation. Through the investigation, two hypotheses were tested. The results of a social reality survey where used for the purpose of this study. These data were analyzed with several statistics tests. Finally, the investigation shows that there is causality and a relation between the poverty level and the propensity to conflict. There is also causality and a relation between the diversity of the families in a population and their propensity to conflict.
