Trans-sulcal Parafascicular Surgical Corridor for Resection of Brain Tumors: The Last Frontier

2021
The surgical treatment of the intra-axial tumors has progressively evolved from the development of the transsulcal corridor by Prof. Yasargil, which utilized natural anatomic corridors, to the more recent development of the transsulcal parafascicular surgical corridor (TPSC), which focuses more on the relative position of white matter tract fibers in aiding corridor selection. The parafascicular concept essentially signifies that one may navigate in a safer manner between critical white matter tracts (WMTs) to preserve their functionality. As such, the purpose of this chapter is to create an anatomically-based organizational construct in order to describe the critical WMT fibers pertinent to key surgical transsulcal parafascicular corridors.
