Diaporthe (Phomopsis) is a genus of fungus that has often been reported as a plant pathogen and rarely described as infectious in humans. This is the first case report of Diaporthe eres causing any infection in man as well as the second documented case of septic arthritis caused by Clostridium bifermentans. A 12-year-old male with no significant past medical history suffered a penetrating injury to his knee with a thorny stick 2-days prior to presentation while playing in the backyard.
