Skin Transplantion between Identical Twins-Case Report

1998
Though great advances have been made in treating burn patients, management of scars remains a great challenge. We report a 16 years old girl who suffered from a burn injury when she was 4 years old. She developed scar contractures on her thighs and from the lower chest to the abdomen. The contracture over her left chest caused downward displacement of the left breast. She has an identical twin sister. A free groin flap was taken from the twin and it was transplanted to her sister microsurgically. The operative course was uncomplicated. Unfortunately, the flap became pale if the patient changed position. We had to remove the flap because of the poor blood supply and convert it into full thickness skin. The graft survived.
