Particle- gamma correlation determination of static quadrupole moments.
1990
A complete particle-{gamma}-ray angular correlation has been measured for the decay of the first 2{sup +} state of {sup 24}Mg excited by {sup 24}Mg(200 MeV)+{sup 208}Pb. The particle-{gamma}-ray correlation, expressed as alignment tensors, proves to be particularly sensitive to the static quadrupole moment of the 2{sub 1}{sup +} state. The derived value of the 2{sub 1}{sup +} static quadrupole moment is {ital Q}{sub 2}=({minus}29{plus minus}3) {ital e}fm{sup 2} which is (1.56{plus minus}0.16) times larger than the rotational value.
