An Event-Oriented Backpressure Scheduling Scheme for Internet of Vehicles

2019
Reliable and fast communication between vehicles is a prerequisite for the realization of intelligent transportation systems(ITS), because the communication in the Internet of Vehicles(IoV) requires real-time processing of data, especially for some emergencies, such as traffic accidents. However, the existing communication technology between vehicles does not satisfy the quality of service(QoS). First, the communication link in IoV is unstable. Second, with the expansion of IoV, a large number of terminal devices may generate a large number of data, resulting in network congestion. A good routing algorithm can balance the network load and transmit packets reliably and quickly, such as backpressure algorithms that have already been used in mobile networks. In this paper we improves the existing routing strategy and proposes a backpressure scheduling scheme for IoV. The advantages of the scheme is mainly reflected in 1) proposing direction as one of the metrics, which is combined with backlog difference to make routing decision; 2) no need to maintain complete network topology map; 3) forwarding packets based on different types. The scheme takes advantage of the characteristics of IoV while considering the latency requirements of different types of packets, increasing network throughput and decreasing latency.
